A deep dive into the Keukenhof pavilions

Keukenhof pavilions - The heart of the Garden of Europe

While the outdoor fields of Lisse are legendary, the Keukenhof pavilions offer a spectacular indoor journey through the world’s most exquisite floral artistry. These climate-controlled sanctuaries ensure that, whether you visit in early March or late May, you will encounter millions of blooms at their absolute peak. From the historical insights of the Juliana Pavilion to the massive tulip displays in the Willem-Alexander Pavilion, each space offers a unique perspective on Dutch floriculture.

Where are they located?

The Keukenhof pavilions are strategically spread across the 32-hectare park. You’ll find the Oranje Nassau Pavilion near the main entrance, while the Willem-Alexander Pavilion sits at the park’s centre. The Beatrix Pavilion is located in the northern section, and the Juliana Pavilion is situated near the historic windmill.

How to access?

Access to all Keukenhof pavilions is included in your standard Keukenhof admission ticket. There is no separate fee to enter the Juliana Pavilion, Willem-Alexander Pavilion, or any other indoor halls. Simply walk in during the park’s opening hours (8am–7pm).

Things to know before booking Keukenhof tickets

  • Included access: Entry to every one of the Keukenhof pavilions is fully covered by your general park ticket. You do not need to buy specific ‘pavilion-only’ passes.
  • Weather-proof beauty: If the Dutch spring weather turns rainy, the Keukenhof pavilions serve as the perfect refuge, offering thousands of square meters of covered floral displays.
  • Rotating shows: The Oranje Nassau Pavilion features a different flower show every week. If you have a specific favourite, like roses or freesias, check the 2026 floral calendar before booking.
  • Peak bloom guarantee: Even if the outdoor tulips haven't fully opened yet, the Willem-Alexander Pavilion and Beatrix Pavilion are kept at optimal temperatures to ensure full blooms from opening day.

Exploring inside the Keukenhof pavilions

Willem-Alexander Pavilion

Named after the Dutch King, this is the largest of the Keukenhof pavilions. Spanning over 6,000 square meters, the Willem-Alexander Pavilion (or Willem Alexander Pavilion) houses more than 500 varieties of tulips, along with vibrant amaryllis and potted plants.

Beatrix Pavilion

This is the most romantic of the Keukenhof pavilions. The Beatrix Pavilion is dedicated entirely to orchids and anthuriums, creating a lush, tropical paradise of colour and fragrance that stays open throughout the entire season.

Oranje Nassau Pavilion

If you love floral design, the Oranje Nassau Pavilion is a must-visit. It features weekly rotating themes, showcasing everything from roses and hyacinths to chrysanthemums in artistic, large-scale arrangements.

Juliana Pavilion

For history buffs, the Juliana Pavilion is the place to be. It houses the permanent Tulpomania exhibition, explaining how the tulip became a Dutch icon and the fascinating history behind the bulbs.

While most Keukenhof pavilions focus on floral exhibits, the Irene and Wilhelmina pavilions are dedicated to visitor experience and Dutch heritage.

Irene Pavilion

Located in the ‘Organ Barrel’ area, the Irene Pavilion is synonymous with traditional Dutch cheer. This pavilion is easily recognisable by the large, traditional Dutch street organ situated just outside, which plays classic melodies throughout the day.

Wilhelmina Pavilion

The Wilhelmina Pavilion is arguably the most picturesque of the Keukenhof pavilions. Situated directly on the edge of the great pond, it offers a view of the resident swans and the historic fountain. It functions primarily as a high-quality restaurant.

Architectural highlights of the Keukenhof pavilions

The Keukenhof pavilions are masterpieces of glass and light. The Willem-Alexander Pavilion, built in 1996, features a cutting-edge ‘HighLight’ glass construction that allows maximum natural light to reach the flowers while protecting them from the elements. Most of these structures are designed to blend seamlessly into the English landscape style of the surrounding park.
