Heart Boy was added to the Moco Museum collection in 2016. Like every street art, Heart Boy had an uncertain future as it was a part of a building that was up for demolition until Heart Boy was saved and conserved. The 2000kg piece is now up for display at The Moco Gardens. Interestingly, the stencil of Heart Boy can be found in different locations throughout London, while the heart appears in different indoor artworks of Banksy.
The Crude Oil series in 2005 had Banksy remixing Old Master’s paintings- tainted replicas of paintings of Monet and Van Gogh that are overpainted with twisted satires. In the Crude Oil series, Banksy updates the preexisting artworks by adding details or painting contemporary contexts over them. Banksy’s ‘Home Sweet Home,’ exhibited at Moco Museum, showcases the example with its aggressive lettering.
Using monkeys as his messenger, Banksy mocks the hilarious hypocrisy of humankind. It is often considered as a parallel to Bank’s journey of a street artist from alleyways to finding his place at museums and exhibitions. From once being considered vandalism for breaking the rules and strict boundaries of art, his art is being considered one of the most valued street art in the world. His art might be a question to the world- Who’s Laughing Now?
