Explore the Efteling map before your visit

Navigating Efteling is simple when you understand its layout. The Efteling map spans five themed realms (Rijk zones), including the iconic Fairytale Forest, and organises all major roller coasters, dark rides, dining options, and theatres across massive outdoor grounds.

Navigating your way around Efteling

Getting around Efteling is straightforward once you know what to expect across its expansive, lush grounds:

  • Walking & distance: As a large outdoor theme park, a visit requires a significant amount of walking. Wearing comfortable footwear is essential for exploring the grounds throughout the day.
  • Suggested route & order: To make the most of your day, start early at popular coasters in Ruigrijk (e.g., Baron 1898) before heading to popular dark rides like Droomvlucht or Symbolica. Save the sprawling Fairytale Forest (Sprookjesbos) for the afternoon when wait times peak elsewhere.
  • Park transport: While there is no shuttle bus service, you can rest your feet by taking scenic rides on the Efteling Steam Train or the Gondoletta boats, both of which offer pleasant loops around major park areas.
  • Dining & rest stops: Eateries, snack kiosks, and rest areas are plentiful. Benches are positioned along almost every pathway, ensuring frequent opportunities to take a break between attractions.

Visitor facilities

Efteling provides a wide range of guest services and accessible facilities across all park realms to ensure a comfortable visit:

  • Restrooms: Located near all major attraction hubs, dining locations, and main plazas throughout the park. Accessible restrooms are available at every major toilet block marked on the Efteling map.
  • Baby care & changing stations: Dedicated baby-changing stations and private nursing facilities are available at major restroom areas, including inside the Baby Care Centre near the Fairytale Forest (Sprookjesbos) and near main eateries.
  • Wheelchair access & ramps: Pathways across the park are paved and wide. Wheelchairs and mobility scooters can be reserved in advance at the park entrance (House of the Five Senses), and accessible entrances/ramps are available at all major rides and venues.
  • Elevators: Available in multi-level indoor venues, such as the Efteling Theatre and select indoor dining establishments, ensuring step-free access across levels.
  • First aid station: A fully equipped First Aid facility is located in the Marerijk zone (near the Anton Pieck Plein), staffed with qualified medical personnel.
  • Locker storage & cloakroom: Storage lockers for personal belongings and luggage are situated at the main entrance area (House of the Five Senses).

Tips for your visit

  • Download the official Efteling app first: Skip the paper map and use the interactive Efteling map in the app. It provides real-time wait times, walking routes to attractions, live show schedules, and lets you order food in advance to skip mealtime queues.
  • Use the steam train as a shortcut: The Efteling Steam Train (Stoomtrein) isn't just a scenic ride—it serves as a quick transit option between Marerijk (near the main entrance/Fairytale Forest) and Ruigrijk (the thrill-coaster zone) when your feet need a break from walking across the park.
  • Beware of Fairytale Forest dead-ends: The Fairytale Forest (Sprookjesbos) is a massive winding maze with a single-direction feel and very few mid-path exits. Enter near the main entrance or Marerijk only when you have a full 1–1.5 hours to explore the entire loop.
  • Use single rider lines for coasters: If you don't mind splitting up your group during the ride itself, look for Single Rider queues at major thrill rides like Baron 1898, Joris en de Draak, and Max & Moritz to drastically cut down wait times during peak hours.
