Depending on how much time you spend on each exhibit, the visit can take anywhere between 1 hour to 2 hours. On average, visitors spend 1 hour and 15 minutes to explore the permanent exhibit.

By car: Easily accessible by car, the nearest car park is Q-Park, located underneath Museumplein. There is a paid parking option on the streets near the museum too.
By train: Multiple trams and metro lines connect Amsterdam to the Museum’s nearest stops: Van Baerlestraat (tram 2, 5 or 12) or Museumplein (tram: 3, 5 or 12).

Library: You can access the library by appointment only. It is open from 10am to 12pm and 2pm to 4pm on weekdays.
Cloakrooms: You can store your coat, bags, small backpacks (up to 45×25×25 cm), and umbrella in the cloakroom. The lockers can be locked electronically using a numeric code of your choice.

For Vincent’s Eyes Only. Drawings by Emile Bernard (Sep 26 2024-Jan 12 2025): This exhibition presents 27 drawings that Emile Bernard sent to Vincent van Gogh, including Brothel Scene and Breton Woman with a Parasol.
The Power of Pigments (Jan 16 2025-May 25 2025): This exhibition shows a selection of these drawings by artists such as Van Gogh, Redon, and Gauguin after the invention of synthetic paint in the 19th century, like Odilon Redon’s The summit.
Anselm Kiefer (Mar 7 2025-Jun 9 2025): The Van Gogh Museum and the Stedelijk Museum collaborate to present works by Anselm Kiefer, including new, never-seen-before works painted especially for this exhibition.
Van Gogh: The Roulin Family Portraits (Oct 3 2025-Jan 11 2026): This exhibition is devoted to the portraits of the postman Joseph Roulin and his family, painted between the summer of 1888 and early 1889.

You cannot enter the Van Gogh Museum with bulky luggage. Small handbags and child-sized backpacks are permitted. Small bags, outerwear, and umbrellas can be stored at the cloakroom facility, but you may also have to line up.

Small bags and backpacks are allowed in the museum. However, larger bags and luggage up to 45×25×25 cm must be stored in the museum's cloakroom facilities for security and to protect the artworks.
