Heineken Experience rooftop: A sky-high toast to Amsterdam

Perched atop the historic brewery, the Heineken Experience rooftop offers panoramic views of the city’s canals and spires. This open-air terrace serves as the perfect final stop for a refreshing drink and skyline photos.

How to access the Heineken Experience rooftop?

The rooftop is located on the top floor of the former brewery building in De Pijp. Entrance is granted via a dedicated elevator near the end of the tour circuit. Access to the rooftop at the Heineken Experience is not automatically included in all Heineken Experience tickets; you will have to specifically purchase Heineken Experience + rooftop tickets that offer entry to the rooftop.

Architectural highlights of the rooftop

Historical and cultural significance

The Heineken brewery was the first of its kind in Amsterdam, opening in 1867. The rooftop represents the brand's evolution from a local industrial site to a global cultural icon. Today, the space bridges the gap between the historic brewing heritage found in the copper kettles below and the modern, cosmopolitan spirit of Amsterdam seen from above.

Detailed timings

  • To catch a summer sunset, visit between 8:30pm to 9:30pm from late May through early August for golden hour cityscapes.
  • For winter sunsets, plan your visit around 4:30pm to 5pm from late November through January for those cosy dusk skies.
  • Spring and early autumn offer the most pleasant rooftop weather, especially in April, May, or September when the breeze is light, and views are clear.
  • Visit late afternoons for the best lighting if you’re into skyline photography or planning to post that perfect rooftop shot.
  • Avoid weekends after 2pm if you want space to sit or take uninterrupted photos. It gets lively and packed by mid-afternoon.

You can find the entrance at Stadhouderskade 78. It is best reached via tram lines 1, 7, 19, or 24 (Marie Heinekenplein stop).

Arrive precisely at your booked time slot; if you are more than 15 minutes late, entry cannot be guaranteed due to strict capacity limits on the terrace.

Get directions

There’s no food service at the rooftop bar—this space is dedicated to serving Heinekens and speciality tastings from the in-house Heineken Studio. For dining, nearby local spots offer plenty of options right outside the brewery.

The Heineken rooftop is an outdoor space. In the event of extreme weather like heavy storms or high winds, the rooftop may close for safety. In these cases, your additional drink voucher is usually honoured at the indoor bars.

Plan your visit

While the vibe is casual, most visitors opt for smart-casual attire.

Feel free to bring your camera for the skyline views, but professional equipment like tripods and drones is strictly prohibited to ensure a comfortable space for all guests.

  • Plan your visit around the weather. The rooftop is outdoors, so clear skies make a big difference in the views and overall vibe.
  • Bring a light jacket, even in summer. The breeze on the rooftop can be stronger than you’d expect.
  • Use the restroom before heading up. It saves you from needing to head back down and potentially lose your spot.
